A fantastic post on the blog Travels and Trifles inspired me to look back through my own photos from a safari in Tanzania. The Weekly Photo Challenge was to use the Rule of Thirds to compose a photo with its primary subject off-center, a technique I seemed to use frequently while snapping photos of African wildlife.
From towering to tiny among the acacias …
Serious to silly in the Serengeti …
Lumbering to lithe in the savannah …
Looking to landing near Ndutu …
Colorful to camouflaged on an afternoon game drive …
Prancing to perching atop long skinny legs…
Devouring to drinking in grasslands and watering holes …
and scavenging to reigning supreme in the circle of life throughout Tanzania.

Thanks for these very kind comments! I had just gotten my good camera when I took this trip; the animals are so incredible that the photographs look good in spite of my lack of expertise at the time! Definitely a trip of a lifetime – I hope you can do it soon!

Thanks! It was a really memorable trip and I’m lucky to have some good animal photos to show for it. Nothing can compare to seeing them in person, though; hope your dream trip comes true!

These photos are amazing! I have always wanted to do an african safari, but now I am even more inspired to just go do it in the near future 🙂
What kind of camera do you use if I may ask? I want to buy a new one but am not quite sure yet what kind I want..

Thanks for your nice comments! I have a Nikon D-50 – not a super fancy camera, but definitely better than my Canon Power Shot, which I had been using before. In Africa, I often used a 55-200 zoom lens to get the up-close detail. I am really an amateur photographer; the camera and the scenery helped me get these great shots!

Thanks! I will look that one up! I’m very amateur, currently I just have a very basic Nikon Coolpix, so anything is better haha!

Yes, very much so. I’d never really done a post on my beautiful safari, and your gorgeous bird photos spurred me to action. Mine don’t come close to yours for fine photography, but as I was saying to someone else, it’s hard to take a bad picture on safari!

You should definitely go on a safari someday; it’s an amazing experience! I loved East Africa for a safari, but southern Africa has some great safari countries also.
